on hiatus

Happy 2018 all!

I unfortunately closed out 2017 with a rather unfortunate incident- breaking my leg!

Skiing? Exercising? Ice skating? Nope, none of the above. We were at Kevin’s basketball game and I got a phone call about my car (which had been towed the day before due to broken brakes- seriously, solid day for me) so I got up to leave the gym.

I stepped down from the bleachers in my Ugg boots which, coincidentally, had just turned 10 that Christmas! Because if you’re not wearing Uggs and a North Face jacket to class as a college freshman, who are you? Anyway I stepped down onto the gym floor which was wet from people tracking in snow, and slipped. My ankle twisted under me in some bizarre fashion and I went down and felt a big crack.

I remember hearing my sisters laughing and having a brief moment of embarrassment before realizing that I was not going to hop back up because OMG PAIN.

Also still wondering what the experience was like for the guy on the line at Dunn Tire.

They carried me out of the gym into the trainer’s room, where she tried to remove my boot and I freaked out. At some point in there I also lost consciousness. She cut it off, and said I needed to go to the ER. So my dad, the GS, and Morgan and I trucked up to Upstate and spent the next 5+ hours there. Luckily my aunt works there and she was able to help speed things along for us a bit and she kept us company while we were waiting for X-rays.

I still spent NYE out at the lake and it was great to ring in the new year with my family, even if I was sober and wearing my dad’s sweatpants  for the majority of the weekend.

The GS and I headed back down to Baltimore on New Year’s Day, and I’ve spent the last week essentially crutching between the couch and my bed (yes I have to scoot up and down the stairs on my butt). Originally I was told I wouldn’t need surgery, but I got the opposite news yesterday from the orthopedic I saw down here. So now I’m scheduled for 8AM on Monday. This means I’ll have a plate and a bunch of screws in my ankle, and also that I can’t drink a glass of rose during the Golden Globes on Sunday.

I thought I would be really antsy without my regular workouts but honestly I’ve been in so much pain I haven’t really thought missing the gym. My doctor said once I’m in a boot we can talk about easing back into exercise with upper body and core. Also my yoga studio is AMAZING and froze my membership, and said the first month I’m back will be free. Love them so much.

I probably won’t be able to do a lot of cooking for a while, although I’m hoping to get one of those scooters so I can at least free up my hands and move around a bit. And because I’ll look SO cool with it.

The worst thing about all of this, aside from the pain, is that I can’t do ANYTHING by myself. Luckily the GS has been awesome bringing me everything I need and cooking for me and making sure I don’t overdo it.

I’m hoping he can make something soon and blog it for you! The other night he made this quinoa and chicken and it came out great but he didn’t take any pictures. Next time!

Thanks for your patience and keep your fingers crossed for me. After all, I do have to be in a wedding dress in about 5 months so here’s to a speedy recovery.
