birthday muesli

Happy 25th Birthday to my favorite older sister, Kelly Christine!

Mid twenties. Phew. Getting old.

I’ve discussed several camp foods before, but I failed to mention a staple- my Aunt Pat’s muesli. There’s always a bunch of it, and it’s always in a big Pennysticks container. It’s a really filling breakfast that is perfect for fueling up for a big day at the lake, whether that involves shoveling shale or laying on the dock. We all love it, but no one loves it more than Kelly.

It’s interesting to me that she’s so fond of a breakfast food, given that she wasn’t exactly a morning person for the first 18 years of her life. My dad had to drag her out of bed every morning in high school, and once she finally graced us with her presence she would scream at Morgan and I to get in the car, that we owed her gas money, and that we better have brushed off the snow already.

Yup, all three of us at the same school for a year was a blast.

Anyway, because of this lovely behavior my dad referred to Kelly as “Sybil” for quite a while. Multiple personalities.. you understand.

So I decided to honor her maturity and old age with some birthday cereal. I figured it was appropriate, given her transformation into a normal human being before noon. Plus, I associate Grape Nuts with old people and at 25, she’s well on her way.

Muesli

inspired by my Aunt Pat, I’m sure I forgot something.

5 cups oatmeal (I used old fashioned, you could also use instant)

1 1/2 cups Grape Nuts

4 cups granola (I used one with almonds, if you use plain you should add nuts separately)

1-2 cups craisins, raisins, or other dried fruit

muesli and macaroons 011

Shake it all up and serve with milk, yogurt, etc.

A fabulous start to your day, and to Kelly’s 26th year of life.
